The 11-story building used to be home to the Z NYC Hotel, but that is no longer open. Merchants Hospitality leased space in the building to the hospitality startup Sonder in January 2020, but Sonder ended its lease that summer, and Merchants sued the firm for about $2.5 million, according to court papers. The case is in state Supreme Count in Manhattan.
Former Goldman Sachs partners Frank Brosens and Ken Brody founded Taconic Capital in 1999, and the firm has offices in New York, London and Hong Kong.
Merchants Hospitality’s other New York properties include the restaurants Art Bar in the West Village and Industry Kitchen in Lower Manhattan, according to the company s website.

Advertising agency Doner is taking 62,000 square feet in the 260,000-square-foot 400 Galleria Officentre building in Southfield after several decades at a Northwestern Highway building in Southfield.
The Doner advertising agency is packing up its longtime headquarters and moving to new digs in Southfield.
The company is taking 62,000 square feet in the 400 Galleria Officentre building, owned by Farmington Hills-based Friedman Real Estate and New York City-based firms Taconic Capital and Axonic Capital, after its lease expired this year in the building at 25900 Northwestern Highway south of Civic Center Drive owned by Livonia-based Schostak Bros. & Co.
