Taconic Capital buys Long Island City hotel property for $38 4M

The 11-story building used to be home to the Z NYC Hotel, but that is no longer open. Merchants Hospitality leased space in the building to the hospitality startup Sonder in January 2020, but Sonder ended its lease that summer, and Merchants sued the firm for about $2.5 million, according to court papers. The case is in state Supreme Count in Manhattan. Former Goldman Sachs partners Frank Brosens and Ken Brody founded Taconic Capital in 1999, and the firm has offices in New York, London and Hong Kong. Merchants Hospitality’s other New York properties include the restaurants Art Bar in the West Village and Industry Kitchen in Lower Manhattan, according to the company s website.
