After days of near silence following her loss in the governor’s race, Republican candidate Kari Lake said on Thursday that she is “still in this fight.”
. kari lake still has to concede for race for governor. the nbc news decision desk has called the race for her opponent democrat katie hobbs. as of now, there is a difference of .6% in the vote talley for governor. an automatic recount is triggered at .5%. the decision desk says the final tabulation could fall within that range but it s quote very unlikely. kari lake repeatedly claimed without evidence that results in arizona are illegitimate. she posted a video to twitter yesterday telling followers the, quote, fight to save our republic has just begun. while lake is sharing those videos on her social media feed, washington post reports she did so from mar-a-lago. a former local news television anchor was at donald trump s florida home and golf club yesterday to attend a luncheon
writing about today, that confidence being torn down. how does it get rebuilt? that is a great question. i wish i knew the answer. but it is it is so disheartening. i mean, i spent a week in arizona over the election just talking to people, like, you know, what will you think if kari lake loses? i asked people over and over. they said i ll think there was trickery, i ll think there was fraud. it s a scale, right. some people think there is some sort of big master plot by democrats to cheat. some people think there are sort of minor areas, tabulation issues that maricopa county had as a reason why lake would lose. there s a blueprint now for thinking about close elections, especially, in terms of fraud. and i think that all we can do is continue to tell the truth. but i think that s great question. how do we fix this? i m not sure i know the answer.
is she not going to concede? reporter: the problem here, chris, is that that s the whole tweet. there s no supporting evidence. there s no further additional facts. there is nothing but that. your guess is as good as mine. what i can do is run through a list of grievances she and members of the gop had up to the call itself, and one being that the election process was too slow, and somehow the republican-dominated adviser board that oversees the elections in this state was somehow slow rolling the vote, and they say that s not true, and they got hit with a bomb of 290,000 mail-in ballots because lake told her supporters not to trust the election process and to bring them in by hand. that s one. and two might be some tabulation machines failed to process some of the ballots, and no excuse for that, obviously, and
way. if it does not, it is going to give us an indication of how the rest of this could potentially go. so we are anxiously awaiting this, the tabulation still continuing for all of these ballots. the curing process of just a very small number of votes, just about 10,000 or so, paula, that is continuing as well. and that s simply trying to track down some of those signature verified the ballots that they were not able to signature verify and make sure that those ballots are connected to real people. so stay tuned. in the next 30 minutes to an hour we re going to certainly have a better picture of this very, very tight race. paula? kyung lah, we look forward to talking to you again later in the hour. when republicans in the house get ready for a battle in the party. members are openly challenging leader mccarthy s bid to become speaker. cnn s jeff zeleny is here with more.
