Sherry demands withdrawal of raise in power tariff July 5, 2021 ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) parliamentary leader in Senate Sherry Rehman Saturday demanded withdrawal of raise in the electricity tariff. In a tweet, she said the results of the budget had started affecting people through the recent raise in electricity tariff and petroleum prices. “After slapping a petroleum levy of a whopping Rs610 billion, ‘Tabahi Sarkar’ has hiked electricity tariff by Rs2.97/unit - an additional burden of Rs135b on consumers,” she said. Sherry Rehman said nothing shocks now, but still another ordinance empowers the federal government to hike electricity prices without any consultation. She said where were those people who used to claim not to raise prices before the budget. “Why increase prices if you are not providing electricity? The increase in electricity rates should be reversed,” she demanded.
