ideology. we had several democrats come out saying they ll be a no. i want to ask you about the rumor of the potential deal whether it s legit or not. the democrats have come forward and said ok we won t force you to 60 votes on this if the next nominee who comes up you won t go nuclear. has that been offered. is that a deal anybody s considered taking? the criticism of neil gorsuch is political theatre because they re willing to go forward if they can control the process down the road. what they did in 2013 is take the republicans out of the game when obama was president by changing the rules when they had the majority in the senate and a democratic president. the democratic party who senator schumer and harry reid changed the rules for the circuit court. there s never been a case in the history of the supreme court a person denied a floor vote to be on the court who s reported out of the committee in 200 years except one time both democrat
hand we re worried he won t be an independent check against trump. they haven t coalesced around the same message because judge gorsuch is so qualified. democrats really believe that what happened here was a traf c tvavesty. the rule in which a person gets a hearing, et cetera. so i think the issue here is democrats are looking at this nominee and they want democrats to actually test this out. i think the interesting thing that happened this morning is mitch mcconnell saying he won t go nuclear. this is an important issue. i don t think he ruled it out. he didn t rule it out but he says he needs 60 votes, not 50. that s an indication he s not going to go the nuclear route. i think the challenge here is that everything donald trump does makes this more difficult, not easier and is actually in making more democrats stand up.
and even possibly for syria. mike, you re pessimistic about this six-month interim deal, but isn t six months of maybe testing iranian intentions better than maybe the military option, if you will? well, i wouldn t put it that way. because the fact is we ve already made major concessions up front. we ve already given them the right to enrich. we ve basically shredded six security council resolutions that say they shouldn t enrich uranium. we gave them concessions up front for basically a commitment they won t go nuclear for six months. so we bought six months of talks. we re paying them to negotiate with us and we re paying a very, very, very heavy price. when you say the u.s. is paying a very heavy price, administration officials say it is a relatively modest price, a relatively modest easing of sanctions in order to make sure iran does not go forward and accelerate its production, potentially, of a nuclear bomb.
