for everyone to hear. as your next governor, i will listen more than i talk. i will work with anyone who has a goodo idea that we can deliv fore kentuckians. with all the partisan bickering and nastiness that we re seeing in politics we have an opportunity to do better right here in kentucky. again, that was andy beshear declaring victor but matt bevin, the man he apparently defeated, said he is not going to concede the race yet. he cited unspecified irregularities in the vote. this is a close, close rate. we are not conceding this race by any stretch. not a chance. in the end we will have the governor that wasth chosen by t people of kentucky. and that s the way the process should work. now, it is not clear yet whether bevin will request a
obamacare. matt bevin came in and took a sledgehammer to that expansion, added work requirements to it. andy beshear is now going to take those back. so that was an issue in the race, and i think that to the extent that other democrats can have some of those blue collar voters focus less on cultural issues and more on bread and butter economic issues like health care, like wages, other things that democrats want to do, that is a promising route for them. i m glad you mentioned the name steve beshear there because a reporter on the scene was saying he was picking up from some of andy beshear s folks tonight that they felt perhaps one of the reasons they performed so well in t the rura counties was the beshear name, the memory of his father that made some of the voters a little more comfortable checking off the democratic name on the ballot. david corn, we re talking so much kentucky here. i do want to just get to you on one of the other states.
so they got a break there. they actually might have won the house of delegates even without those breaks, but in the future given the fact that democrats will redraw the lines in 2021, i think you can look to the democratic margin increasing. and now larry, a quick word about what we re seeing in kentucky tonight. the president went down there last night. he nationalized the race. he put himself on the ballot in kentucky. he put impeachment on the ballot in kentucky. the republican advertising campaign put donald trump and put impeachment on the ballot in the kentucky governor s race. and it was a very bad night for the republicans. it sure was. yeah, it s true they won everything below governor, but governor matters more than all the other things put together. and trump put his reputation on the line. he picked kentucky for the election eve visit because he thought he could have the most influence there. but matt bevin lost. when you re a republican running
he said won 5 out of 6 elections in kentucky, including five great candidates that i spoke for and introduced last night. matt bevin picked up at least 15 points in last days but perhaps not enough. fox news will blame trump. winning in mississippi governor race. what do you make of the president s reaction? well, it s a defense of himself. he obviously lost the big one in kentucky. the one that hee landed in the commonwealth to try to affect at the very end and he understands that the big headline is going to be that he lost in a state that his gubernatorial candidate lost in a state that he won by 30 points. what it robs him of is the opportunity to go outwh and say look, america,an the democrats e unpopular. what they re doing in washington is unpopular and nationalizing what happened in kentucky. i think, you know, even more than than the sort of the nationization that democrats
against the senate majority leader in his race next year. don t think this is something that can t happen to him. republicans had a great night. won every other constitutional seat except for bevin. they re even saying this is a very specific referendum onth governor bevin and his behavior and leadership style. iav think you raise an interesting point there. i m curious if you can elaborate onif that. i think a lot of people are looking at this race. obviously this was a state that trump won by 30 points in 2016. it s very pro-trump yet you have the republican losing. to what extent do you have a sense, i - guess, to what exten the result tonight says something about trump versus bevin? right. i think that there was clearly those of us in kentucky understood there was particularly among public educators and teachers who are a key part w of andy beshear s campaign, they have been itching to get a piece of matt bevin for years.in he has made several comments aimed at them in his
