Jillian L. Knapp Dunn, 39, died Tuesday, April 20, 2021, from cancer.
Born in Horseheads, she graduated from Horseheads High School, Corning Community College and SUNY Oneonta. She began her career at Laboratory Alliance and worked at the Crouse Hospital location, according to her obituary.
She had a passion for academics which led her to Syracuse University where she earned a master’s degree in education and began a new career as a primary science teacher at Syracuse Academy of Science.
She was a world traveler, having spent more than a month in Kenya, Africa camping in the Maasai Mara while studying local wildlife. She spent another several weeks in the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador, retracing the steps of Darwin. Vacations included travels to Germany, Bavarian Alps, Munich, Alaska, and the Caribbean, according to her obituary.

Onondaga County vaccine clinics will start using the Johnson & Johnson shot again, starting with a Friday clinic at Fabius Community Center. The county had suspended use of the single-dose vaccine as the FDA and CDC investigated the few cases of rare blood clots following vaccination. Health Commissioner Doctor Indu Gupta said the federal warning and pause should instill confidence, not raise concern. It means that if there are problems, they are going to continue to come back and will say that ‘Okay there’s a problem here. Let’s pause, and let’s try to assess.’ So if anything this should give more confidence in the people in the system. Not less,” said Gupta.
