(Contributed) Facebook Share Authorities have released the names of a woman and her adult son who were killed in the Monday-night fire at an apartment building on Birmingham’s Southside. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office on Wednesday identified the victims as Sylvia Anderson Pate, 76, and Christopher Dwight Pate, 48. Sylvia Pate was from Gordo but was staying with her son. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service responded at 4:48 p.m. to Highland Manor apartments at 20th Street and Highland Avenue South. When they arrived on the scene, they found fire on the second floor of the high-rise complex near Five Points South. The building is home to mostly elderly and disabled residents.
