West Plains, Mo. - Two people were injured after a car struck a horse-drawn buggy on Sunday afternoon. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol report, the incident occurred on Highway 5, five miles south of Grovespring at 3:08 p.m. A northbound 2011 Nissan Altima driven by Chasity Brooke, age 43 of Grovespring, struck the rear of the northbound buggy driven by Sylvia Fisher, age 32 of Grovespring. The impact sent the buggy off the right side of the roadway, causing it to overturn. Both drivers suffered minor injuries. Fisher was taken by Mercy EMS to Mercy Hospital - Lebanon and Brooke was taken to the same hospital by private vehicle. Brooke was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor charges of driving while suspended, operating a vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner resulting in an accident, no seat belt, and failure to display valid plates.
