Senior lawyers pay tribute to late Justice Ngwuta

TODAY File Photo A cross section of senior lawyers in the country have paid glowing tribute to the late Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Slyvester Nwguta, who died in the early hours of Sunday. A statement by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Hadizatu Mustapha announcing the death of Justice Ngwuta, said he died in the early hours of Sunday in his sleep at his official Abuja residence. The statement said “He felt sick and was admitted in the last one week in the National Hospital, Abuja, but before he was moved to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital on Friday, March 5 he tested negative to COVID-19 investigative test conducted on him.’

Malami: Nigeria Committed to End Gender-based Violence

By Alex Enumah The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Mr Abubakar Malami (SAN) has reiterated Nigeria’s commitment towards ending gender-based violence in the country. Malami reiterated government’s position in a speech he delivered to commemorate the 2021 International Women Day. According to the AGF, the federal government is focusing “significant attention on the issue of sexual and gender based violence and therefore working towards the establishment of specialized courts and Judicial Divisions focused on sexual and gender-based violence”. Supreme Court Justice Ngwuta dies at 69

‘ Only one S’East justice now left at apex court’ About three weeks to his retirement, Sylvester Nwali Ngwuta of the Supreme Court died yesterday morning. He was 69 years old. In a statement, the apex court announced that Ngwuta passed on around 2:30 am in his sleep at his residence in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. The statement issued by the Chief Registrar, Hadizatu Uwani Mustapha, revealed that the deceased judge fell sick and had been admitted in the last one week in the National Hospital, Abuja, before he was moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital on Friday March 5. He tested negative for COVID-19. The body has been deposited in the hospital’s mortuary.
