At least eight expelled BNP leaders and its associate bodies have been elected ward councillors in Sylhet city while four Jamaat-backed candidates won the polls held on Wednesday.
BNP has served show cause notices on 41 candidates for participating in the Sylhet City Corporation elections in defiance of the party decision to boycott the city polls.
Ignoring the BNP’s decision of boycotting the five city polls, some 25 grassroots party leaders, including six incumbent councillors, have filed nomination forms to run for councillor in the June 21 Sylhet city polls.
