Manchester to rehab chime bells | Schools | The Journal Gazette

An iconic fixture on Manchester University s campus will be removed next month for restoration so it can sound again for its 100th anniversary next year. The Verdin Co. of Cincinnati is tasked with the Manchester Chime project, which includes removal of 10 bronze bells from the Administration Building tower Aug. 9 to 11, the university said in a news release. Along with refurbishing the bells, which range in weight from 550 to 2,650 pounds, work includes creating four bells and installing a new open bell tower next spring or summer in the middle of the Manchester University Mall, the release said. Alumni and others raised $8,700 in the early 1920s to buy the original chime, and its players – mostly students – pushed hand levers in a drafty room directly below the bells, even in winter, the release said.

BASF, commodity groups award scholarships

Tom J. Bechman PARTNERSHIP: The American Soybean Association partnered with BASF to award a scholarship to Sydney Hefty of Auburn, Ind. An Indiana student who captured an FFA title in 2020 is the winner of a $5,000 scholarship. Other scholarships were awarded to students around the country. Suggested Event Jun 15, 2021 to Jun 17, 2021 Sydney Hefty has been doing science experiments related to agriculture since the seventh grade. That kind of dedication paid off first in 2020 when she was named winner of the Agriscience division in the FFA Stars over Indiana program at the 2020 Indiana FFA state convention. It paid off again more recently when she received a $5,000 scholarship presented by BASF and the American Soybean Association.
