And now a team of volunteers, descendants of the Girmitiyas, has come together with a mission to preserve and progress the legacy of the Girmitiyas with a collection of memories from the era. Led by Vijendra Prasad, chair, Nalini Naidu, deputy chair, and Pravind Kumar, committee member, the Girmit Museum Project Committee comprises a team of volunteers living in Fiji and diaspora groups in New Zealand and Australia.

The Global Girmit Institute in Lautoka, Fiji. For the time being, the museum is located within the Global Girmit Institute (GGI) library in Lautoka, and the search is on for artefacts from the Girmit era.
