STEUBENVILLE While the COVID-19 pandemic will impact how Martin Luther King Jr. Day is observed locally, it will in no way lessen the importance of remembering and celebrating the life and legacy of the civil rights leader who was assassinated on April 4, 1968, in Memphis, Tenn.
The MLK Youth and Children’s Program will be marked Saturday at the Sycamore Youth Center at 301 N. Fourth St., beginning at 9:30 a.m., and include a variety of service projects, the memorial service moves to a virtual platform with the service set for 6 p.m. Sunday at Mount Carmel Community Baptist Church.

STEUBENVILLE The Sycamore Youth Center, 301 N. Fourth St., is finalizing plans to host this weekend’s Serve Ohio Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service/Celebration.
It will involve a community service day combined with an MLK birthday celebration and an evening online concert on Facebook “Live,” explained Bobbyjon Bauman, center director.
“We were able to secure a small grant from Serve Ohio from the state of Ohio to help cover our expenses for a service day event, and we are thrilled to have local minister Michael Jett of Mount Zion Baptist Church of Steubenville who started and currently leads the Generation Now youth ministry there be our speaker,” Bauman noted.
