Mingus at Carnegie Hall has finally been made available for the first time.
Recorded on Jan. 19, 1974,
Mingus at Carnegie Hall was originally released as a single LP with only two long jam sessions of
C Jam Blues and
Perdido. But the concert actually included two hours of performances, which meant that more than 70 minutes of music were left on the cutting room floor.
Almost 50 years later, the album was recently reissued in full in celebration of this year’s Black Music Month. The deluxe edition of
Live at Carnegie Hall restores all of that previously unreleased material in its correct sequence, putting fans right in the middle of that moment in 1974.
