WR installing nearly 2,600 cameras by January; they will also have cleanliness indicators
To strengthen the security at railway stations, the Western Railway (WR) has decided to set up 2,600 improved
CCTV cameras on the Churchgate-Virar route. These cameras will also have heat sensors to identify crowds, which will be reported to the control team at
Mumbai Central. The WR hopes the installation will curtail the spread of Covid-19, which is expected to remain a threat even next year.
Senior WR officials said they are overhauling surveillance systems and video analytics of the entire suburban section on the Churchgate-Dahanu route. A web of CCTV cameras will be created for extensive monitoring, right from platforms, entry-exit points at stations, foot overbridges (FOBs), the concourse area and inside trains.
