when we talk about the charging documents state that freddie had a switch blade, that was a lie. right. he did not have a switch blade acourting to the state s attorney, at least according to her investigation and evidence that she has received. so how do you think that this goes on to evaluate how the baltimore city police department works in the future? it s the amount of attention that this case has gotten the amount of scrutiny that had case has gotten that has brought the fine details to light. but, of course we know this is not just the baltimore city police department frankly. how many times have we seen around the country that we look at a police report that says everything is fine and then in the order and then a good arrest was made and they don t know how don t know how the victim died. and then fortunately, there s a follow-up report or there
thanks to both of you. i want to begin with state prosecutor mosby with specific points about the charges in the case of freddie gray. i understand we don t have the sound bite. do we have the sound bite? no sound. okay. let me explain what she had said. she said officers miller and nero placed freddie gray in a seated position and subsequently found a knife clipped to the inside of his pants pocket. the blade was folded inside the handle. the knife was not a switchblade lawful under maryland law. i keep getting back to this point the fact the statement of charges from the district court of maryland the other day which lists the fact it was a switchblade. this is a lie. this paper is a lie it s
that could have happened inside a van, the driver would have to have been pretty reckless. under the statute of the law of maryland, there s a bill of rights that allows the police officer ten days after the incident before they have to come forward and give a statement. that officer will, in fact, be giving a statement at some point in the very near future. the question, i think, as we look at the case is here you have a guy who is i don t think anybody has made that there s a suspicion that he makes the stop. he doesn t have the switch blade so there s probable cause for the arrest. something happens between the time he gets into the van to the time he gets out of the van that his spine is severed. clearly, this is a man with 10 convictiones and 12 arrests and this is not somebody who is unused to this situation. he didn t try to kill himself. so he died as a result of what happened in that van. at this point, the state s attorney will conduct that investigation. she ll talk to

will make those people feel any better. let s go to joy reid, she s been in baltimore all week covering this story. joy, with a can you tell us about the charging documents on gray s arrest that have been obtained by msnbc what do they tell us? reporter: well, joe one of the questions that people have been asking continuously is what prompted freddie gray to be stopped by police in the first place. the documents only sort of clarify that the initial stop was because upon seeing police, he fled or he tried to avoid police officers who then stopped him and then the narrative that is on that document that was submitted to the superior court here in maryland says that the police officers that then stopped him found a spring-loaded knife, a switch blade inside of his right pocket. some of the people that we ve been talking to as we ve been walking around maryland were questioning how police could have probable cause to know he had a switch blade inside the
