winter swimming championship, one of the coldest swimming competitions in the world. a lot of spectators coming to watch it every year. they come from everywhere because they want to see these brave people suffering in the water. studies have shown swimming in cold water can improve mental health, promote healing and improve circulation. it s a good way to strengthen your body, to strengthen your mind, to be ready for extreme conditions. swimming in water this cold, especially without a wet suit, isn t without risks. you swim the same way as you do in regular swimming, but the difficulty is breathing because when you re in cold water, your lungs cramp. therefore you have to train to be table to breathe very quickly. when you first get into the water, you need to remember it s mind over matter. you re not going to die. if you stay in for too long, you can get hypothermic, obviously, and that s problematic. the trick is not to do that. it wasn t as bad as i thought.
