School Notebook: May 12 Raising awareness Members of the junior class at Greely High School in Cumberland and their families see the fruits of their labor after planting over 4,000 tulip bulbs in October 2020. According to Junior Class Adviser Katie Dexter, the purpose of the plantings, besides adding beautification to the school campus, is to show awareness and support for multiple causes, including breast cancer, social justice, mental health and pride. Belfast Area High School students present ideas, earn awards at 75th Maine State Science Fair

Wed, 05/12/2021 - 9:45am BELFAST  Belfast Area High School students joined 200 fellow students and competitors from around the state for the 75th Maine State Science Fair, with a special emphasis on the ocean’s ecology and its relation to rising temperatures.   Chelsea Gaiero, Jonah Lovejoy, and Grace Hall participated in the April 3 virtual fair, which was organized by The Jackson Laboratory  and the Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance.   The fair comprised 157 students representing 23 schools in eight Maine counties tuned in to present virtual research or engineering projects to a panel of judges and attend events. High school students from across the state competed for prestigious state titles and over $1 million in scholarships and awards.

Aislynn Worden of Sanford ME a Presidential Scholars semifinalist

SANFORD, Maine – Sanford High School senior Aislynn K. Worden is a semifinalist in the 2021 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. At the high school on Wednesday, Worden said she was surprised when she got the news last fall. “I still am,” she added. Worden is one of only seven seniors in Maine named in a recent U.S. Department of Education announcement about those being considered for the program. She joins Harshini K. Chaganti, of Scarborough High School; Devon Michael Hunter, of John Bapst Memorial High School in Bangor; Pedro Santiago Little-Siebold, of Ellsworth High School; Culiandra Rose Nero, of Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School; Swetha Palaniappan, of Cape Elizabeth High School; and Wade F. Wahlig, of Falmouth High School.
