Yvette Gutierrez, owner of The Sweet Tooth Candy Apples in Robstown, says she he added business hours to accommodate a flood of customers craving the new craze. The mango tamales are a sweet and sour take on the delicacy, which is usually made up of masa and either beef, pork or chicken. Instead, her shop uses a Fruit Roll-Up as the casing, fills it with mango and strawberry slices and then coats the concoction in liquid and power chamoy.Courtesy, Yvette Gutierrez Mango tamales are being credited for helping a South Texas snack shop weather the woes of pandemic-related business slowdowns.
