Gentrification has ruined the Cotswolds I grew up in
When I moved back to the Cotswolds, I was attracted to its pretty villages. But it seems there’s no room for imperfection anymore

Not long ago, one of my neighbours complained about the shabby exterior of another neighbour’s – let’s call him Fred – house. Fred drives an ancient, clapped out car and spends all his time working on it in a tumbled down garage next to his cottage. It’s probably the most unkempt house in our village and I doubt he could afford to buy it if he’d moved here in the past decade.
