presidential contenders for 2024 on a mission to prove their gop street cred and build a fund-raising base. so the question isn t if we ll see some fireworks at this hearing but how many will we see. joining me is politico national correspondent bets see swann, rick tyler is with us and navine nyak as well. how do you see the several days in iowa affecting the process? way too early, though technically not. there s no question that these are the most high-profile moments these senators are going to have likely this entire year
complicated and to the point about the nbc poll, didn t the president support among latino voters drop something like 9%. that s a scary number for an administration that has rhetorically really committed itself to this community. so it s hard to see politically a way. part of the problem as swann was explaining to me yesterday if you took the gain of 2013, not only would you not have as many republicans to support it, you couldn t get all 50 democrats to support it. the middle ground we ve gone further away from each other. the gang of eight bill is entirely unresponsive to the situation today. i wrote in the very first month of the administration this is going to be the issue that sinks them in 2022 if they re not careful. this is no longer the illegal immigration of your unattached young men, singly or in groups,
to spend time worrying about and providing so much loyalty to the trump and the family. working on myself every day. here with me now is betsy woodruff swann, i always love talking to you. because you have so much information about what is going on with this january 6th committee, there is so much information. let s talk about who s cooperating and what they re doing and what they re doing about those whose information they need, like jeffrey clark and john eastman who do not appear to be cooperating. both of these men have pleaded the fifth. clark engaged in a lot of other strategies to try to explain away his refusal to cooperate with the committee before he pleaded the fifth. so legally, he could be in a tougher spot than eastman is. but the question for the committee now is with both of
the democratic side whose votes remain critical in the evenly split senate. meanwhile, the debt ceiling fight will be reviewed again. if you feel like it s deja vu, it s because we just went through this in october. democrats opted for a short-term extension which would avoid a shutdown of the government. a short-term extension that was passed by democrats expires on december 3rd. that s friday. joining me now is betsy woodruff swann, a national correspondent for politico. let s start with where i started. donald trump s appeals to the court to prevent the january 6th panel from obtaining certain documents. where does that stand? we re expecting developments on this at some point this week. the judge who is supervisoring the case, judge carl nichols, has opted not to expedite that process or not to slow down that process. he could have taken some procedural stems that would have made that case move more slowly, but it s actually not happening.
