Wildlife at enchanting Kanha | A photologue
Whenever i think of Kanha, its always the brilliant landscapes soaked in the winter mist and golden light that comes to my mind. I never think of Tigers whenever i think of Kanha. These 2 images remain forever etched in my memory which i had clicked when i made my first trip to Kanha back in Dec 2013.
I had managed to sight only 1 tiger with no decent images.
Since then i made one more trip in Feb 2016 which resulted in no cat sightings. This meant 1 tiger sighting in 10 safaris. I had no complaints because Kanha offers so much more than just tigers.

Swamp deer found in the Gangetic and Sharda basins would be compared to find out the genetic differences between them. Efforts are on to conduct the first genetic profiling of swamp deer found in the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve. Swamp deer or barasingha is the State animal of Uttar Pradesh and one of the five deer species found in the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve, located in the Terai region of the State near the Indo-Nepal border.

MANGALURU: The Pilikula Biological Park has additional attractions, with arrival of two pairs each of white rhea and brown rhea, along with three swamp deer, said H Jayaprakash Bhandary, director of the park.
Bhandary said that rheas are the largest flightless bird of South America. Swamp deer are also called barasingha, and found in the Indian subcontinent.
The swamp deer is an endangered species, and has arrived from Thiruvananthapuram Zoo, Kerala, in an animal exchange programme.
They were received in exchange for three King Cobras and two pairs of Whitaker’s boa sent to Thiruvananthapuram Zoo, Kerala from Pilikula Zoo.
