THE long and storied history of Newtown s Lion Works has been shared by one of the industrial estate s longest serving businesses. Cushy Number Home Furniture Shop is marking its 35th year by telling the story of its home which even played its part in the war effort. However the story of the Lion Works begin in the early 1900s when 10 acres of land were cultivated for food production and a pig farm which saw a Pig Club established which lasted until the early 1940s. With war clouds over Europe all of Britain was expected to play a part in the war effort.
