GUWAHATI: Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday offered ‘bhumi pujan’ to mark the inauguration of construction work of a ‘Swahid Smarak’ and a ‘Swahid Udyan’ in the memory of the agitators killed in six-year-long Assam agitation.
The martyrs’ memorial and the garden will be constructed in an area spanning more than 98 bighas at Paschim Boragaon in Guwahati.
Later, Sonowal, along with several cabinet colleagues, offered tributes to the martyrs on the occasion while taking part in a state-level Swahid Divas programme organised by the Assam Accord Implementation Department at its office premises at Khanapara here. The CM also released the first volume of the four-part ‘Tathyakosh’ (Data Book) on the anti-foreigners movement.
