By the time she got immobilised and confined to a hospital bed in Kolkata following a mishap at the hustings which the TMC alleged was a conspiracy to "take her life" and the BJP a "well-scripted drama", the TMC boss had visited 12 temples in two days.
Chief minister and MLA-aspirant from Nandigram Mamata Banerjee held a public outreach here on Tuesday evening, after a meeting with Trinamul workers, a day before she files her nomination papers in Haldia.
Nandigram, once the pivot of the anti-land acquisition movement that catapulted Mamata and her party to power in 2011, is now again the focus of this crucial Assembly elections, as Mamata takes on her trusted lieutenant-turned-bête noire Suvendu Adhikari of the BJP.
Mamata toured Nandigram for nearly four hours, paying visits to temples of sentimental value, at least two Shahid Bedis, sites of remembrance for those killed in the 2007 land agitations, and an Islamic shrine.

Mamata Banerjee filed her nomination for contesting from
Nandigram assembly seat on Wednesday.
Mamata offered prayers in a local temple and then filed her nomination. “I am a commoner and I will fight from Nandigram seat. I have filed my nomination. Mahadeb, Swadesh Das, Sushoma and Abdul Samad are my proposers. Among them, Sushoma is from martyr’s family,” Mamata said.
Nandigram movement occurred in 2007 after CPI-M-led Left Front government tried to acquire land for a special economic zone. During protests by the farmers, 14 people had died in police firing.
