Munich Airport (MUC) has become the first airport in Europe to introduce PayPal QR Code – a mobile and cash-free payment system – in all stores and businesses of Eurotrade, the wholly-owned retail subsidiary of Munich Airport.
Customers can now shop without touching cash or card readers with the touch-free PayPal QR Code and their smartphone. “Again, we were pioneers in the introduction of innovations such as payment systems,” announced Sven Zahn, Managing Director of Eurotrade Handels-GmbH. “The option of contact-free payment via a QR code means further growth in service quality and security for Munich Airport, especially in times like these.”

The wholly-owned subsidiary of Munich Airport operates 41 shops from duty-free, news, watches and jewelry to high-quality fashion labels. Starting immediately, customers can shop without touching cash or card readers with the touch-free PayPal QR Code and their smartphone.

PayPal QR code payments for shoppers.

Eurotrade has installed the technology at all 41 of its stores, ranging from news outlets and fashion boutiques to full duty-free shops.
The new technology allows shoppers to pay via PayPal using a QR code to avoid any contact at all, including Pin numbers.
To use the system, shoppers show they QR code on their PayPal app at the till. Shop staff then scan the code and the amount to be paid is shown on the customer’s app, they can then approve the purchase.
