Gov. Ron DeSantis unleashed a bullish state budget proposal this week, with a little something for nearly everyone in his $96.6 billion spending plan.
The governor’s recommendations are a starting point for lawmakers, who will begin to flesh out the budget as they hold committee meetings in advance of the March 2 start of the annual legislative session.
DeSantis stood alone at a podium Thursday as he laid out his proposal to boost state spending by more than $4 billion, despite legislative leaders’ repeated warnings that even such sacred cows as education could be on the chopping block because of a drop in tax collections during the coronavirus pandemic.
