Days Away From 98th Birthday, WWII Vet Gets High School Diploma

Days Away From 98th Birthday, WWII Vet Gets High School Diploma It doesn t matter how old you are, you are always capable of setting goals and dreams to accomplish for yourself. Just ask 97-year-old Harold Williams from Valatie, in Columbia County, NY. When Williams was in 8th grade, he had to drop out of school to help his family make ends meet and then he made the decision to enlist in the Army. This makes him one of the many soldiers to fight on the frontlines of D-Day. I didn’t want to work in the arsenal; I wanted to join my buddies,” Williams told News10. “Everybody else was going and I wanted to go, too.”

More districts go remote, brace for testing

Several districts in the Twin Counties have opted to go fully remote as they prepare for the possibility that the area may be labeled a microcluster. Originally slated to return to in-person instruction Monday, Windham-Ashland-Jewett and Hunter-Tannersville will stay remote until after the Christmas break. Elementary students at Cairo-Durham will also switch to virtual learning until January, joining grades 6-12. “It is with a heavy heart to inform you that Hunter-Tannersville Central will go fully remote from Dec. 14-23,” Superintendent Nate Jones wrote in a letter to parents. “I am a true believer in the benefits of in-person instruction, and this decision has not been made lightly. We have thoroughly thought this through and believe this is in the best interest of Hunter-Tannersville Central.”
