Once itâs served its purpose as the title of this article, I think Iâll pitch it to a TV network. I think it would be a smash. The contestants would be people who think they have a legitimate gripe against an individual, the politicians or society in general.
Dope-smoking slackers could come on Americaâs favorite TV show and whine about how their parents didnât warn them against majoring in Comic Books of the 20th Century and, instead, enabled them by paying their college tuition; blacks could come on and blame white people for the fact they were raised by single uneducated women in fatherless homes; transgenders can complain about hardware stores that refuse to hire baldheaded guys with beards wearing dresses to wait on customers.
After I quoted from the AP story regarding my resigning my post as movie critic for Los Angeles Magazine, I heard from Stephen Hanover.
He wrote: âI find it interesting that they singled you out in such a negative way. Is a critic supposed to be a cheerleader? In reading the reference to your age [31] at the time it caused me to wonder when your political epiphany occurred. Had you seen the light by that time? Could that have been part of the reason you were seen as a pariah?â
I pointed out that the AP reporter hadnât trashed me. He actually called me clever and the fastest barb in the West. He was merely reporting that the studios were happy to see me stiletto take our leave.
Everyone seems to agree that until things get straightened out in Central America, weâre going to have to deal with millions of people wanting to either move here or at least send their kids to America.
Straightening things out will take money, but I say itâs better to spend money down there than up here. We donât need any more technologically deficient foreign laborers who donât even speak the language; at least not unless they can hit a curveball and steal bases.
According to my research there are 18 million people living in Guatemala, 10 million in Honduras, and six million in El Salvador.
