Kolkata: Mamata Banerjee has won the Nandigram assembly seat from where she was trailing since the counting of votes that began Sunday morning.
According to the latest update, Mamata defeated her former aide and ex-minister Suvendu Adhikari by 1200 votes.
Nandigram was won by Suvendu Adhikari in earlier election as TMC candidate. He however switched to BJP in December last - few months before the state polls.
A massive wave of optimism and joy seems to be floating in West Bengal and the rest of the nation. Amidst overall gloom, this is a big sign of hope.
Trinamool Congress led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is moving towards a landslide victory in Bengal with almost 50 per cent votes. The BJP might just about hover in the vicinity of 80 seats. With current leads,, the Trinamool might cross 207 seats a huge shift in vote percentage with the BJP losing both its old constituencies as well as facing a sharp dip in its vote percentage as witnessed in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

What’s special about the 2021 assembly election?
This is an election in which the Prime Minister, the home minister, six chief ministers, 12 Union ministers and 50 MPs are travelling across the state, bringing in party workers from outside states, having booked a majority of the state’s hotels, guesthouses and other facilities for weeks. They are running a violent and vicious campaign. It’s a Rajsuya Yagya no state election has seen before.
Why is Bengal the BJP’s target? Is it the weakness of the ruling party that makes them smell blood?
