LITCHFIELD â As of last week, all Litchfield school buildings now have solar panels in an effort that will save the town nearly $6 million, according to Selectman Jeff Zullo.
Zullo said financially, the solar panels are âa fantastic thing for the town. Weâve reduced our energy costs to the tune of a couple hundred thousand dollars a year for over 30 years.â
Zullo, who is a member of the townâs Sustainable Energy Task Force, said the town will lease the solar panels at a 13.1 cent per kilowatt-hour rate â a flat-fixed rate for 30 years, at a $62,000 annual fee.
âSo if you average the lease fee and the rate, itâs about 7.8 cents over kilowatt-hour over 30 years,â Zullo said.
