The blues became bluer Thursday.
Albertina Wassenhove, whose Midway Tavern gave blues musicians and fans a place to call home for more than three decades, died Thursday night from a heart ailment. She was 93.
âShe was a kind of a quiet whirlwind of energy,â local musician Eugene âJumpinâ Geneâ Halton said. âSometimes she would seem like a quiet person, but she was always at this place of positivity and joy.â
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hahn Funeral Home in Mishawaka and noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a service, at Hahn.
Harvey Stauffer, the host of âBlues Revueâ on WVPE-FM (88.1), said Wassenhove âworked so hard to keep the blues aliveâ and that musicians from around the world had been sending him condolences.
