RYA awarded further £150,000 of Tackling Inequalities Funding

Claudia and daughter (Sailability@Whitefriars) plus OnBoard session at Tollgate Primary School, London © RYA The RYA has been awarded a further £150,000 of National Lottery funding from Sport England s Tackling Inequalities Fund which aims to help reduce the negative impact of COVID-19 and the widening of the inequalities in sport and physical activity. Non-profit organisations and RYA OnBoard and Sailability venues in England are once again invited to apply for grants of up to £10,000 that will be used for projects which engage with: Lower socio-economic groups Disabled People People with long term health conditions In the last round we awarded 19 venues and we re hugely grateful to Sport England for making this funding available to sailing projects once again. It s been another very tough six months for grassroots sport but we re now beginning to see the impact that this funding can have said Rob Clark, RYA Director of Sport Development.

Discover family dinghy © RYA With 2021 marked as the year of the staycation, there s never been a better time to find your local sailing venue, get out on the water and #DiscoverSailing. On coastline, lakes and waterways across the UK there are approximately 2,000 RYA affiliated clubs and centres offering opportunities for water-lovers of all ages to get afloat. Plus this summer some venues are running covid safe #DiscoverSailing sessions inviting you to come and have a go for very little cost or FREE. After a long winter in lockdown we know people are keen to spend time outdoors with their friends and family whilst taking advantage of both the physical and mental health benefits associated with being on the water. In 2020 some 21,000 people joined their local sailing club which is fantastic considering the limitations that many venues were facing explains Rob Clark, RYA Director of Sport Development.

Sailors across the globe tune into virtual RYA Dinghy Show

Team GB sailors at the virtual RYA Dinghy Show © RYA Thousands of sailors from across the globe tuned in for the 2021 RYA Dinghy Show presented by Suzuki which was held this weekend (27-28 February) virtually for the very first time. If you have registered for the show, you can now watch all the talks back on demand. RYA Director of Sport Development Rob Clark said We re delighted that over 8,000 people registered for the show with more than 12,000 logins in total throughout the weekend. It was fantastic to see such great engagement with both the speakers and exhibitors and for the Dinghy Show content to be accessible to so many sailors all over the world. There is definitely a real buzz to get back on the water when we are able to!
