Longtime county commissioner to retire after 34 years FacebookTwitterEmail Longtime Hale County Commissioner Mario Martinez is retiring after 34 years of service to county government. A retirement reception is planned for Monday from 2-3:30 p.m. at the Justice Center, 225 Broadway. The precinct 2 commissioner and lifelong resident of Petersburg has served Hale County since 1986. He was re-elected as precinct 2 commissioner in 2018 for a four-year term. The term expires in 2022. He is married to Susie Martinez and they have three kids and grandchildren. Earlier this year, Martinez accepted the position of city manager of Petersburg for a term of two years.
