Echoing the film, Bennett-Martin stressed the problems of plastics go beyond litter. There is an issue all the way from the extraction of it being a fossil fuel in the earth all the way to the other end of the cradle, which is when it s litter and it starts to break down and heat up, she said. It s in our waterways, it s in our air, it s in us. And so as that develops, if we continue on this trajectory of everything being made of plastics, then we re going to see a steady increase in the issues around public health.
The entire life cycles of plastic emits greenhouse gases, said panelist Hermina Glass-Hill of Susie King Taylor Women’s Institute and Ecology Center.

Hinesville, GA. The grand opening of the new exhibit honoring Liberty County-born Susie King Taylor will open on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at the Liberty County Historical Society in Downtown Hinesville.
The month of April is significant for the Susie King Taylor Women s Institute and Ecology Center. Annually, we celebrate April 13th as Freedom Day because it is the day that fourteen year old Susie King Taylor escaped from plantation slavery on Isle of Wight (now Midway) in Liberty County, Georgia during the Civil War. She became a nurse and the first federally funded African American teacher in the state of Georgia.
The Story of Plastic documentary to air April 21 in honor of Earth Day To-go cups, takeout boxes and shopping bags are all staples of a good night out in Savannah and water bottles and coffee cups are an easy fix on a busy workday. But the environmental cost of that ease is starting to add up. Plastic Free Savannah is spreading awareness of the dangers of the single-use plastics we use everyday with the virtual screening of the Story of Plastic documentary on April 21 in honor of Earth Day. The screening will be followed by a community discussion with a panel of local experts and activists.
