In a significant development, a Delhi court on Wednesday ordered the de-sealing of the Uphaar cinema hall, situated in Green Park Extension, where 59 cinema-goers had lost in a fire tragedy in 1997.The court said that there was no valid reason .
After a fire broke out, engulfing the building, on June 13, 1997, an FIR was lodged at the Hauz Khas Police station and the investigation was subsequently transferred to the CBI.
"I say that there is no subsisting charge, lien, mortgage, or loan on the Uphaar Cinema premises located at Green Park Extension, New Delhi (subject matter of the captioned application)," company s authorised representative Vinod Kumar Kumar Saigal said in the affidavit filed before Principal District and Sessions Judge Sanjay Garg.
