PROVINCETOWN The exhibition hallway at Provincetown Commons is filled through April 30 with artwork by Provincetown artists and those who feel connected to Provincetown and the Outer Cape. Titled Guts and Glory, Open Call Show, the theme of the exhibition acts as more of a structure than a mandate.
“We ve been hesitant about doing themed shows in the past because some artists feel restricted,” Dave LaFrance, Commons community and operations manager, says. “I don t think most of the work was created to fit the theme, but to see where each artist places (his or her) pieces is interesting.”
The work mostly two-dimensional pieces with a few sculptures and assemblages is split fairly evenly as you enter the building. On the left wall is Glory. On the right is Guts. On the Glory side, you’ll find Mark Adams’ mixed media “No Fear,” Ramón S. Alcoléa’s “Memento Mori” wood assemblage and Susanne Delatour Carey’s gouache “Honey.”
