so you re sitting in a state that has a big election. and the democrat one. i think is open for democrats elected there since the civil war. so, it was quite something. my suggestion to the republicans today is don t stop with medicare. the next thing they should propose is getting rid of the veterans administration. i think that will go over really big. and after that the elimination of traffic lights. when you re writing what is a typical day like for you? guest: it depends what i am right thing. if i write a newspaper column for the new york post , my home base or usa today or another paper, the structure is i have thought about the subject for a couple of days are but as a headline i will see what happened overnight to decide that is what we will do today then i go for a jog. while i am running, i will structure the story basically write-in in my head more than the outline, the meat and the bones and after a much-needed shot where we will sit down and put it down. a newspaper column they are somewhat formulaic although you want clever language and the newspaper column it has more serious rating but you get it down very fast and then depending or not you re on deadline you take as much time as you can to read refine it. the deadline we have to decide saturday or monday, midafternoon is when all of the new yorkers get out of bed by defy get it to them by about 3:
i want to know your feel of where we are right now, i assume you are here partly because you are interested in that. so, man with the mic if anybody looks like they want to interrupted me, let them, please, give them a microphone and you guys, feel free to make this a discussion instead of a from the front of the hall to the back. i ll interrupt myself briefly here, when i went to a lot of ed conferences there was always a guy who would stand up in front and say, the way we know how children learn and that used to make me crazy, just to start the conversation, i wanted to say, you know how they learn every hour of the day? do you know how every child learns? but, then he d say they learn by doing things not by being lectured to, if someone tills things, don t absorb itted as quickly or easily or maybe not at all and i used to nod my head and said that is righted, why are you in the front of the room telling us things and i don t want to tell you things, i hope we ll dis
i am the editor of the book and main editor of the book, and my role is actually this front end. we dreamed thumb e idea with the hip of jeff, who is a public affairs author and with my colleagues, editorial colleagues, we sat down on thursday evening, from 4:00 p.m. and looked at all of the commissions coming through the web site and decided how we were going to select them and arrange them with the within the book and did that on thursday and friday we saw how they had all run out. the pages looked like. and we moved a lot of material around and found we were a little short and a little long. and that sort of happens when you design pages through a database, and. but in the end, we at about 4:30 yesterday we ended up with 144 pages and we have proof read them at least twice. it was a proof reading job from hell it turned out, because not only are we doing it in the convention center with a lot of dis track but many of the sequels are variations on a theme and it is diff
