A heatwave? Storm the supermarket salad aisles

Sunny scenes on Portobello beach. Picture: Jeff J Mitchell/Getty Images I AM hoping that, by the time you read this, we will be basking in glorious sunshine. Otherwise, I am sorry to tell you, that my calculations have gone terribly wrong (by calculations, I mean refreshing the weather app every five minutes to check the forecast hasn’t changed). There are rumours swirling that a heatwave could be upon us this weekend. The first tantalising glimmer of summer. Yet, as every Scot knows, balmy weather inevitably leads to barmy behaviour. Last year, when supermarket shelves were stripped bare as lockdown loomed, it all felt oddly familiar because – aside from the stockpiling of loo roll – the overall vibe wasn’t too far removed from how many shops across Scotland look whenever temperatures start nudging the mid-teens.

I am suffering from vaccine envy | HeraldScotland

A vaccine is prepared to be administered at the Louisa Jordan Hospital in Glasgow. Picture: Jeff J Mitchell/Getty Images HAVE you had your vaccine yet? It is a question I have heard – and uttered myself – more times than I can count in the past few months. It is one of those things you now throw into conversation almost by rote: Hi, how are you? Family all good? Work going OK? Some weather we ve been having, isn t it? What about that Line of Duty finale? Have you had your vaccine? This invariably splinters off into a series of sub-themes, a bit like following a flowchart for customer interactions in a call centre.

Crocs: Hip or heinous? The great footwear debate

Would you wear Crocs? FASHION can be a fickle beast and the latest it-shoe is stoking widespread debate: Crocs are back. The brightly coloured, hole-speckled clogs are enjoying a renaissance, spotted everywhere from the Oscars red carpet to making star-studded cameos in TikTok videos. How on earth did this happen? Some blame the demand for laidback lockdown attire, others suggest it can be credited to a raft of high-profile collaborations and brand ambassadors (rapper Post Malone and actor Priyanka Chopra to name a couple). Once considered a terrible fashion faux pas, sales of Crocs soared in the first three months of the year. The company s revenues climbed by 64 per cent in the first quarter, reaching a record $460 million (£331m).
