Farmers are producing more food on less land, but at what cost?
Gene Lollis wants farmers protected from “unjust, nuisance lawsuits,” he wrote in his March 31 guest column, “Florida’s right to farm legislation protects food supply across state.”
What more do farmers want from government, given that 40 percent of farmers’ net income in 2020 came directly from our government (taxpayers)? Sure, farmers are producing more food with less land, but at what cost … pesticides, weed killer and fertilizers with names 20 letters long, showing up in our food, soil, and/or water. Animals are given antibiotics that make infections more dangerous to humans, too.
