Homes, cars and other belongings are some of the most obvious hurricane-caused losses. But the Texas Forestry Association is asking Orange-area residents to help them replace another casualty - trees.
Hurricanes can cause salt damage to roots and leaves or bring flooding that submerges roots for too long.
To help keep tree numbers high, the Forestry Association today is giving away some 1,000 native trees to residents who weathered hurricanes Laura, Beta and Delta.
“This species is native to Southeast Texas and will grow on a wide variety of sites,” Association Executive Director Rob Hughes said in a news release about the event. “We are working with the city of Orange to help residents replace some of their trees because of all the benefits they provide.”
