Three UCSC faculty members Kathy Foley, Edward Houghton, and Susan Strome have been honored with Edward A. Dickson Emeritus Professorship Awards for the 2023–24 academic year.
The study confirms the notion that the environment can alter genes. Genetics tells us that genes and heredity pertain to qualities or traits can be passed down from parents to offspring as a result of changes in DNA sequence.
Without altering the genetic code in the DNA, epigenetic modifications can change how genes are expressed, affecting an organism's health and development.
