I want to talk a little bit about the announcement made yesterday by our county Health Officers in the bay area with a strong recommendation that people who are going out of their homes wear masks. I want to be clear that, number one, this is a recommendation from our county Health Officers, and, number two, this does not take the place of physical distancing. Year. We have to do more. Last year i set a goal of doing 20 miles of bike lanes throughout the city. So far we are at 7. 5 miles of those dedicated bike lanes. We are on the way to meeting that goal. This is not about pleasing one group over another. This is about public safety. It is about making sure no matter how you are trying to move around San Francisco you know you can do it safely. San francisco is changing. We want to make sure that people are moving around in a way that provides an opportunity for us to feel safe and secure. I am excited about this project. It looks great down here. The streets are clean and smooth and paved. Your bus ride wont we bumpy in this section of townsend. I want to thank s. F. M. T. A. , San Francisco public works for the work they have done to move this project forward quickly along with other projects in San Francisco that we have seen improvements on. I want to thank walk sf and the Bicycle Coalition and the folks who advocated for improvements
With children who are no longer in school, and also especially kids who have not been able to hang out with their friends and do the things that, of course, kids love to do. I know this has been very challenging for all of us, and especially for families as you juggle to work at home, home school your children, and deal with the difficulties that we know have happened over the past couple of weeks. More porely, what more importantly, what we are going to deal with over the next month to two months of staying at home and trying to abide by the order that has been issued. We know that it is important that while children are at home that they continue to access learning. For some, having access to a laptop and internet is a luxury that other kids may not have. We also know that the School District has been working really hard to implement policies around Distance Learning that they are interested in launching within a weeks time. We are reviewing the lease terms and very mindful of the significant Financial Hardship our tenants are experiencing. Once the shelterinplace is lifted we will present to the board for consideration our response to tenants request for relief. We understand there will be challenging times ahead for public agencies such as ours and Small Businesses. Our goal is to be fair to our tenants and protect the publics best interest and investment in the Transit Center. We want to be consistent with other agencies such as the boydf San Francisco.
