Next Thursday’s Kiambaa parliamentary by-election has yet again provided another battleground for Jubilee Party and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to flex their political muscles ahead of the 2022 General Election.
Going by the last-minute heated campaigns by both Jubilee’s Kariri Njama and UDA candidate Njuguna Wanjiku, the contest appears to be too close to call. At play in the bare-knuckled competition is a quest by Deputy President William Ruto’s allied Tanga Tanga MPs from Central Kenya to test their influence in the region. Both Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and Rigathi Gachagua (Mathira) are angling to be Ruto’s point men.

The powerful Jubilee Party organ has endorsed the purge of three MPs for opposing the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) and supporting the ideals of other parties.
The National Management Committee (NMC) yesterday directed the party’s disciplinary committee to begin the process that could lead to the expulsion of Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, Nominated MP Cecily Mbarire and Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga.
In yesterday’s meeting at Jubilee headquarters, the NMC noted that the Gatundu South MP has been espousing the ideals of the People’s Empowerment Party (PEP) in contravention of the Political Parties Act.

The two main political parties have pitched tent in Juja for the last-minute hunt for votes ahead of the May 18 by-election.
The seat fell vacant following the death of Juja MP Francis Waititu, popularly known as “Wakapee”. Waititu died on February 23 at MP Shah Hospital in Nairobi while undergoing treatment. He had brain cancer.
President Uhuru Kenyatta made a brief visit to Kimbo to drum up support for the Jubilee candidate, Susan Njeri Wakapee.
The Standard learnt that the President made a stopover after visiting his home in Ichaweri, Gatundu South.
