CANTON – Stark County commissioners are expected on Wednesday to adopt an Emergency Rental Assistance Program to provide housing stability and prevent evictions.
Through the federally-funded program, county residents would be eligible to receive up to 12 months of overdue rent payments if the pandemic affected their ability to pay.
Payments for unpaid rent bills after March 13, 2020, and up to $50 a month in late fees would be made directly to landlords.
Susan Lenigar, deputy director of the Human Services Division at the Stark County Department of Job and Family Services, presented the rental assistance plan to commissioners at Tuesday s work session.
SCJFS would administer the program with $11 million in COVID-19 relief funds from the U.S. Treasury Department.
