In Annapolis on Wednesday, state lawmakers approved a sweeping police reform bill with veto-proof majorities. The only way we will make our communities safer is by restoring trust, transparency, and accountability between our law enforcement, and the community members they serve, Senate President Bill Ferguson said in a statement.
The package, the result of a compromise between the House and Senate, repeals the Law Enforcement Officers Bill of Rights, sets use of force policy and allows many police disciplinary records to be subject to public review.
House Speaker Adrienne Jones had formed a workgroup to come up with the bill following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

“There’s a reason these priority groups were created. Certain groups, certain people are more vulnerable to getting sick and potentially dying of COVID-19," Carroll Health Officer Ed Singer said during a virtual town hall that lasted more than 90 minutes Tuesday evening.
Carroll County’s District 5 Delegation, Sen. Justin Ready, and Dels. Susan Krebs, April Rose, and Haven Shoemaker, are taking the field with bills that they plan to carry into the end zone before the clock runs out on the session, April 12.
