anywhere. it s the middle zplits not enough. it s this opportunity to capture the middle. susan, what s your take on republicans who now want to investigate feinstein and figure out how ford s letter got leaked? that just has to be put aside for a long time. by the way there is a valid claim, that they should find out how that letter got leaked. the intercept said it wasn t her office. well, i believe it wasn t her. i don t know if it wasn t someone who worked for the minority or the ranking member committee. so that s certainly a possibility. but let s not forget that there are only three or four democrats and three or four republicans that this report is meant to persuade. rest of the democrats, nothing this report says is going to change their mind for other reasons. and the same thing goes for the other republicans on the committee. so that s what this is this investigation is all about. but i also think what this investigation is about, it may
ultimately, democrats will have higher turnout. susan, do you actually believe that this, what s happening with the supreme court justice is going to have that much of an impact on the midterms? yes, we saw a massive amount of americans watch the testimony on thursday. will it impact votes as much as let s say the economy does? because it went into the nafta renegotiation, puts people back to work. that s more important to their bottom line. many people, i know it s offensive to say, like a luxury vote, not a priority. it s interesting, because pew just came out with a ranking of issues to voters right before the hearing. it was supreme court one, health care, two, and economy, three. now, they were bunched together in the 70s but that is very telling because supreme court, as you said, is not always at the top of the list. the other thing we saw in some polling right after the hearing
are working to make sure that that happens. it does no good to have an investigation that just gives us more cover, for example. we actually need to find out what we can find out. this expanded investigation must still be completed by friday, but this is now twice president trump, a man who prides himself as a fighter, has relented on the kavanaugh confirmation process. is this just a negotiating tactic? the art of the deal, if you will? or a sign of dwindling support for the supreme court nominee? with me now, nbc news intelligence and national security reporter ken delanian. along with msnbc political an cyst susan delpersio. and lanny chen, former policy adviser to the romney campaign and now a research fellow at the hoover institution. ken, first, to you. this expanded investigation, i know you left my show to work on
i know that senator flake, collins and murkowski wanted a limited review. they wanted the fbi to talk to the witnesses that dr. ford named. they wanted them to talk to mr. ramirez. so julie swetnick will not be interviewed by the fbi? i think the accusations she names are outrageous. allegations looked into by the fbi investigation. republican strategist susan del persio and legal analyst. you re not at home today. you look in a different place altogether. on the road. how are you interpreting all this, howard? graham is trying the thing in
you ve done it and there are babies who are hurting right now and that won t end. and that trauma is permanent. this is a massive pr fail. and as far as his daughter saying something to him? ivanka trump has counseled to the president, you need to step up, i know you won t. you need to step up and speak for yourself. but the way trump works with people close to him, like ivanka and other who is work for him, is those people don t have to step up and take questions, they re too feckless, too stupid or smart enough not to actually put themselves out there. they get protected by the inner circle. which is very small around this president. people like secretary nielson, sarah huckabee sanders, sean spicer at one point, they re forced out there to make fools of themselves. because they have no choice, they think. you do have a choice. and we need more people to step up. we are seeing more republicans, susan del persio, there s a list
