白浜町は７月１日に白良浜を海開きする。観光は町の基幹産業で、海水浴客の動向は経済を大きく左右する。昨年は７月２３日～８月３１日に開設し、約１５万２千人が訪れた。開設しなくても人が訪れ、事故が発生する危険性もあるため、万全の態勢で管理した方が得策と判断した。
開設について町は、県内に緊急事態宣言が出ていない（近隣府県の状況も考慮）▽田辺保健所管内の医療体制が逼迫（ひっぱく）していないなどの基準を設けており、開設期間中でも状況が変われば閉鎖もあり得るとの考えを示している。
町内にある臨海浦、江津良、椿の各海水浴場も７月１７日～８月３１日に開設する。
