Fayetteville Gold Star family gets scholarships from Folded Flag

A Fayetteville Gold Star family was awarded multiple scholarships from the Folded Flag Foundation 10 years after the death of their service member.  The family of Lt. Col. David Cabrera received more than $25,000 in educational scholarships and grants for his two youngest children, Max age 15 and Roanin age 16. Carbera was killed in action Oct. 29, 2011, just 29 days into a deployment to Afghanistan for which he volunteered. He was inside an armored bus traveling in a convoy from one forward operating base to another when a suicide bomber driving an explosives-laden vehicle purposely rammed into the bus in Kabul, killing Cabrera, four other U.S. soldiers and eight civilian contractors. Cabrera, was the first social work officer to be killed in combat, his wife, August Cabrera, said.
