Kota Kinabalu: Former Sabah Government Employees Cooperative Society Berhad (Kopeks) Chairperson Datuk Maznah Abdul Ghani (pic) dismissed talk that its RM17.5 million venture to establish a Kopeks Village (KV) is not a lost cause.

She said if Kopeks does incur huge losses from the investment, it is due to Suruhanjaya Koperasi Malaysia (SKM) dissolving the BoD effective Oct. 30, 2019.
“The venture was planned by Kopeks to establish its own Kopeks Village (KV) to increase its businesses and to enhance the wellbeing and welfare of Kopeks members.
“The KV project was discussed and approved under the Majlis Perunding Koperasi Kebangsaan where all matters pertaining to the development of the cooperative sector were presented and deliberated before it became a policy to be taken up by any cooperative in the form of programmes and projects.

Kota Kinabalu: Uncertainty surrounds the fate of a RM17.5 million venture that the Sabah Government Employees Cooperative Society Berhad (Kopeks) entered into through a Sale and Purchase (S&P) Agreement in July, 2019, against the advice of Suruhanjaya Koperasi Malaysia (SKM) and which led to the dissolution of the Kopeks Board of Directors.

It is now saddled with a RM6.5m debt following the deal which was the amount it paid so far to the owners of Lembah Impian, a property spanning 6.9 acres comprising four lots under Native Title which Kopeks had wanted to turn into a “Kopeks Village” at Jalan Putatan-Ramayah in Kg Kandazon, Penampang.
